Whittier Branch Student Musicales

 

Participation Rules

• Musicales are open to all well-prepared students to play one or two pieces at the level of advancement. One movement of a Sonatina or a Sonata equals one piece.

• Each teacher may enter as many as 6 students per program but no more than 20 minutes per program. If a teacher submits more than 6 students, performers will be placed on different programs, time permitting.

• Compositions must be MEMORIZED except for ensembles, accompanied music, or music on memory optional programs.

• Music performed at Musicales must be from the standard CM repertoire except on specially designated programs. "Classical Program" also means no transcriptions or arrangements.

• No participant may perform the same selection on more than two Musicales in the same fiscal year. Note: Jr. Bach/Baroque Festivals are considered Musicales.

• Students will not be included on a Musicale if their online application and fees arrive too late for inclusion on the program. The Chair will notify the teacher.

• Teachers are responsible for informing students (and their parents) about the Whittier Dress Code. A student who violates the Dress code will not be allowed to perform. Note: teachers serving as Presenters are also asked to dress per the Dress Code.

• Performers must arrive 10 minutes before the start of the program to be seated in the front rows as assigned by the Program Presenter.

• Students and their families are asked to remain throughout the entire Musicale program and to respect the dignity of the occasion.

Fees

• $4 per performance, 1 or 2 pieces or movements allowed within 5-minute time limit
• $6 per performance, 1 or 2 pieces or movements allowed within 10-minute time limit

• No fee for Holiday/Community Outreach
• No fee for Certificate of Merit Branch Honors—Prep to Level 2
• No fee for Winners of Composers Today
• A student performing a solo and performing in an ensemble on the same day pays a separate entry fee for each performance. For ensembles, the fee is divided equally among the members of the group. There are no refunds for illness or cancellations.

 

November Musicale — November 18, 2017
Classical/Popular/Christmas (memory optional)

• $4 per performance, 1 or 2 pieces or movements allowed within 5-minute time limit
• $6 per performance, 1 or 2 pieces or movements allowed within 10-minute time limit

• Application deadline: November 11
Fees and application must be mailed by postmark deadline of November 11: mail one check payable to "MTAC Whittier Branch" to the Chair at 12304 Bristol Dr, La Mirada CA 90638 

 

Holiday Musicale — Saturday, December 10, 2017
Classical/Popular/Holiday

Location: TBA

• Application Deadline: November 25, 2017.  Applications accepted in order submitted. There is limited concert time. Mail application to Lisa at 4561 Kathy Dr, La Palma CA 90623 or email to lisaszu618@yahoo.com or ellenayong@hotmail.com

• No fee

• Performance Time: Total time of pieces not to exceed 3 minutes or 2 songs. Be sure to time your students' pieces accurately!

• Doublecheck the correct spelling for all of your students' names for their certificates. There will be no reprinting of certificates after the concert due to spelling eorrors on the applications.

• Certificates and Community Service Hours (if needed by the student) will be given to the participants.

• Participating teachers will be asked to assist at the event.

 

February Musicale — February 18, 2018

GIRLS

Wear a dress, or a skirt (knee-length when seated) and blouse, with best shoes.
Split skirts are allowed (defined as: formal, full-legged, flowing, dressy slacks or "Palazzo Pants" that look like a skirt when standing, and are knee-length or longer when seated).
• NO slacks, jumpsuits, or shorts of any kind
• NO dresses or skirts with a slide or front slit above the knee
• NO dresses or skirts that are skin-tight or “hugging"
• NO mini skirts or dresses—skirt or dress must be at least knee-length when seated
• NO halter tops or revealing blouses (use good judgement)
• NO bare midriffs (blouse must cover both stomach and back)
• NO flip-flops, sneakers, or athletic shoes
• Hairstyles must keep the hair out of the eyes and away from the face while performing

 

BOYS

Wear a tucked-in dress shirt (shirts with collars) and slacks, with best shoes (no sandals).
Optional tie and/or coat are always appropriate.
• NO jeans or shorts of any kind
• NO tank tops, sweatshirts, or T-shirts
• NO sneakers or athletic shoes
